Damanjodi
Damanjodi is a small town also known as Nalco township. It is located in the Koraput district of Odisha. Damanjodi is rich in natural resources mainly Bauxite (Aluminum ore). Damanjodi hosts the largest bauxite mines in India, operated by National Aluminium Company Limited (Nalco).
There are 3 different sectors in Damanjodi. Sector 2 of Damanjodi is the largest and has a mall, on which most of the local depends for shopping. There is also a small market area near to the mall.
Only Nalco employess are allowed to stay in the township. There are mainly 3 types of quaters allocated to the employees. A - type (1BHK), B - type (2 BHK) and C - type (3 BHK).
Sector 1 - Damanjodi
Sector 1 of Damanjodi has many significant places. There is a open pendal here in sector1 and it hosts many cultural programs during festive sessions. It is in front of a science park. This is a great place to explore for children, they can learn many scientific concept while enjoying the time.
There is a hilltop Jagannath temple in sector 1. You can reach there either by stepping the stairs or by driving through the hill road. In the foot hill there is a lake, known as Sabari Lake.
Sabari lake is a beautiful place to explore. There is a huge dinosaur statue in the park adjacent to Sabari Lake. There is a cage where you can spot many cute rabbits. Also you can see ducks swimming in the lake.
Recently Nalco has constructed an artificial waterfall in the park, which is originated from the hilltop of Jagannath Mandir.
Behind Sabari lake there is a beautiful Sai Mandir. During the birthday of Saibaba (April 24), many devotees gathers here to celebrate the auspicious day. You can get prasad here during lunch time.
There is an Odia medium school (Saraswati Vidya Mandir) in sector 1.
Sector 2 - Damanjodi
Sector 2 of Damanjodi has two main gates through which you can enter the township. One main gate is close to Bhejaput and other gate is close to Mathalput. Recently the main gate closer to Mathaput is closed.
Saraswati Shishu Udyan is there in sector 2. It is there in Saraswati vihar. Next to Saraswati vihar, there is a shopping mall, which is operated by co-operative society. Most of the employees buys their stuffs from here.
Adjacent to the mall, there is a small market place. Before Mall was operational, this market had a great significance. There is a small restaurant in the market place.
There is a huge park and community center in sector 2. This park is well maintained and local people enjoy their time here. There are benches in the park to facilitate seating for the visitors.
The huge Hanuman statue with 108.9 feet is there in this sector, close to the main gate near Bhejaput. The temple premises is worth visiting. There is a park near to the temple.

You can explore the Dr. BR Ambedkar stadium on the way from Bhejaput to Sector3. This stadium has a seating capacity of around 2000. Different tournaments are being played here.
Sector 3- Damanjodi
Sector 3 of Damanjodi has most significance and covers a large area. If you are coming from railway station, then sector 3 will be the gateway to the town ship.
There is another main gate of Damanjodi, which is there in sector 3. Close to the main gate, there is temple, known as Kanta Baunsuni temple. Maa Kanta Baunsuni is the Ista Devi of the township.
There is a CBSE school in Damanjodi, known as DPS damanjodi. Most of the children of Nalco employees prefers to take admission in DPS, instead of Saraswati Vidya Mandir.
SVM school also had a branch in sector 3, specifically for primary students. But this branch of SVM is closed recently and mearged with the high school, which is there in sector 1.
There is two market area in Damanjodi. One is near DPS School and other one is near the bus stand. This bus stop hosts to most of the intercity buses. In the sector 3 market, there is a co-operative store.
In sector 3, you can also spot two parks. There is a hospital, known as Nalco hospital in this sector. Now a golf course is made near the hospital. This hospital serves only Nalco employees and their families.
You can find Nalco lion's club in sector 3. The club has a canteen, swimming pool, gym etc. During New year night, people gathers here and celebrate the new year with great enthusiam.
Conclusion - Damanjodi
Nalco has significant contribution to the overall economy of Damanjodi. All the visiting places, markets, temples, lakes, parks has been developed by Nalco. All the maintenance of these places has been funded by the Navaratna company.
Still Dmanjodi lacks of colleges for higher studies. Children's are dependent on near by colleges for their higher studies. Recently some renowned coaching center were opened in Damanjodi, but they lacks in quality.
If you are plannning to visit Damanjodi, then summer is the best time. It is often regarded as the Kashmir of odisha. You can stay in hotels in Bhejaput. There is no hotels available inside the township, but there are two different guest house.
In order to book guest house, you need to talk to any employees only. Once you come to damanjodi, plan to stay here for at least 2 days. Also visit to the mines if possible. The hill road has a lot to explore for tourists.
