What does it mean for a man to adopt feminism as an identity, when feminism emerges from a social position he has never occupied? This essay traces three recurring patterns – mansplaining, ally theatre, and himpathy – in which men, often without bad intentions, end up back at the center of a story they entered to support. The underlying problem is not attitude, but position.
