Who are you? What makes people think of you when they see a certain object or place? What makes you different from other people? Often we don’t think much about who we really are. We just look on the surface or go with what people say or think about us. Us as humans never really think about what really makes us different from other people. My name is Daisy Padilla, am 21 years old and Hispanic. My family is a small family, I am the oldest and the only girl so that can tell you a lot about me already. My brothers are younger and will say what they feel about anything that I do or say in my house. They don’t hold back anything emotional or physical when it comes to me. My brothers show me and teach me about sports, boxing, cars, video games and wrestling. Over the years they have mold me to be tough and thick skin when it comes to certain situations. Both of my brothers play baseball year round, this made me get very into baseball because I learned so much about the game. I am there biggest fan and I go to all their baseball games even up to this day. Baseball is something that keeps my family all together and I feel that if anyone knows my family they will know that about us. We are die hard Cubs fans and we go to Cubs games very summer has a family. Once people start talking to me about the Chicago Cubs or just baseball I will just talk for hours. Baseball is something that makes me feel that I am a part of something bigger, and it is just in my soul.
Also the people around you impacted the way you are and who you are as a person. Many of my friends are from other religions or culture that is why I feel am always ready to try new things. To me it is better to be open minded, learn new cultures and to explore the world. Where I live and around me I am blessed to have many cultures and people from different back rounds. All of my friends are very different but I love that the most I would never want one certain friend group. When we all get together it is a blast because we all bring different food and play a variety of music. Having many friends from different cultures has made me very open and understanding of others. It is so crazy to me that some of my friends get married so young in their culture, have parties for days and some of them just live with their boyfriends. My friends teach me about their food, religion, holidays, games and language. At certain parties that some friends have invited me too, I have to wear their traditional clothes. All this excites me and just pushes me more to want to learn more about other cultures and to travel.
Traveling is my passion and my dream is to travel the world, it has been something that I would talk about since I was a little girl. Also I feel that having many different friend groups played a part in me wanted to travel. To me traveling is the best gift or the best investment that you can do for yourself, and to travel is to be free. I have traveled to Spain, Portugal and, New York while in High School because of the clubs I was in. My parents would always tell me to travel as much as I can and if the opportunity was given to me. The biggest support system in my goals on traveling are my parents because they see that this is something that I really want and been talking about it since I was little. When I was younger, I would make a list of all the places that I wanted to go to as I got older. My goal is not even half way done but traveling to Europe was a big step in the right direction because I am the first and only one in my family to go to Europe. In Plato’s cave by Susan Sontag said that “Traveling becomes a strategy for accumulating photographs” and I feel that this is not true when I travel I like to enjoy the moment. When I travel I do take pictures of places that are meaningful to me and that I would like to look back on one day. When I was younger my family would travel to Mexico and we would drive there. Road trips are so much fun to me because we would see new cities and eat at new places. Has your driving through places you can see the change in the way people dress or act and that just fascinated me so much. That I just wanted to know more about different places and explore the world that’s is just something that everyone knows about me.
Another thing that people know about me is that I am very easy to get along with. I never like to start problems or fights with people, also I am very understanding of others and there feeling. If I ever have a problem with something or someone I would try to talk things out with person because that can save you from a lot of miss interpretation. I always like to give people the benefit of the doubt or let them try to explain them self. Most of my friends like to come to me for advice because I will always take my times to talk to them and listen to what they have to say. Then I will tell them my honest opinion or try get them to understand both points of view in a situation. I do not like to jump to conclusions and I do not like to make big decisions on temporary feelings. That is one thing about me that I hate I overthink somethings for days and it drives me crazy. When it comes to my feelings I am very over protective, and I do not like to put myself in positions that will get them hurt. That is why I over think situations because I think of what can happen after and if it would be worth the fight. Has you get older realize that it is not worth fighting with people, it is just better to let things go. Going with the flow and chilling is my thing.
Even on social media I do not put much out their because I do not like to start stuff on twitter, Instagram or facebook. Everything on my social media is about the Cubs, animals and my family. I have a Brazilian turtle name Toshiba and my family treats her like if she was dog. We take family pictures with Toshiba and feed her the freshest food and let her crawl around the house. Honestly I just into animals, music and my close friends and family. I do not feel that I have anything that is very deep or mysterious about me. What you see is what you get and if you ask me something I will tell you the truth it. My family tells me I should not be so open but I feel that people are going to find out what they want to know anyways so I might as well tell them what they want to know about me. I have no filter and many people get upset about that but I just like to say what I really feel about things.
The pictures I choose I feel really show you how I am as a person. I did put some thought and time into what picture to choose. Also how I wanted to look in it and what to wear in the picture. Than I thought, I want people to see the real me that just is laid back and with my favorite thing. I love my pet turtle and just love animals in general that is why feel the picture of me with my turtle just really shows what makes me happy. In the picture you can just see me smiling and just being me, there is nothing more to me than that. The second picture is my portrait, I wanted to show you that I am free spirt and easy going that what you see is what you get. There is nothing more or nothing less it just me. In Plato’s Cave by Susan Sontag she said “Even when photographers are most concerned with mirroring reality, they are still haunted by tacit imperatives of taste and conscience.” I choose the second picture because what you see is what you get and there is nothing that i hide from people. I feel that she talks about how people want to show who they really are but sometimes people can take it another way.In the picture I was mirroring who I really am, to show that I do not hide anything. A picture can mean so many different things and have any different interpretations to a person. In my pictures I am just trying to show how easy going I am but someone can read way more into it. Pictures show how you are or who you were at a certain point in your life. Even a picture that you felt has no meaning can bring back so many memories. I honestly feel that the pictures I choose for this has a bigger meaning to me now because of why I took them. This paper made me really go deep into myself and also think about who I really am and how the world sees me.
