PRIVACY POLICY — MOOD JOURNAL
Last updated: April 2026
App: Mood Journal –Track & Insights (“Mood Journal”, “our”, “us”, or “we”)
Introduction
Mood Journal values your privacy and is designed with transparency and minimal data handling. This Privacy Policy explains how information is managed when you use our mobile app and related services (the “Service”).
Important: Replace bracketed placeholders before publishing. This document is not legal advice; consult qualified counsel for your jurisdiction.
IMPORTANT
Your mood journal content—entries, titles, notes, tags, and related preferences used for journaling—is stored on your device using Apple’s secure app storage (including Core Data where applicable). We do not operate our own servers to store, read, or sell your journal entries.
By using Mood Journal, you agree to this Privacy Policy. You acknowledge that:
• Your journal data stays on your device unless you later use features that explicitly sync or export data (none are required to use the core app today).
• Optional third-party services may process limited information for subscriptions (Apple, RevenueCat) and, where included in the app build, product analytics (Microsoft Clarity), as described below.
1. What we collect — overview
What we do not do
• We do not require an account or login to use the journal.
• We do not sell your personal information.
• We do not upload your mood logs, journal text, or entry content to servers we operate.
Stored locally on your device
• Journal entries (mood, title, optional notes, dates).
• Activity/context tags you select (e.g. work, sleep, relationships).
• App preferences (e.g. display/backdrop choices, onboarding choices, reminder time, premium flag cached on device).
• Summaries shown in the app (e.g. insights, memories) are derived on-device from your local data.
Local storage uses the iOS app sandbox. Deleting the app or entries removes that on-device content (subject to device backup behavior if you use iCloud device backup—under your Apple ID settings, not under our control).
Information processed by third parties (not kept on our servers)
• Apple (App Store, StoreKit): App distribution and in-app purchase processing. We do not receive your full payment card details.
• RevenueCat: Subscription and entitlement verification; may process anonymous or pseudonymous identifiers tied to the App Store / device as described in RevenueCat’s Privacy Policy: https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy
• Microsoft Clarity (if enabled in your build): Product analytics / session insights to improve the app. Processing is subject to Microsoft’s privacy terms: https://privacy.microsoft.com/ and Clarity documentation.
We do not run in-app advertising or use your journal content for ads.
Notifications
If you enable daily reminders, the system schedules local notifications. We do not need to read your journal text to show a generic reminder to log your mood.
Cookies and tracking (within the app)
The native app does not use browser cookies. Third-party SDKs (e.g. Clarity, RevenueCat) may use their own technologies as described in their policies.
2. Use of information
• On-device: Display your journal, history, insights, memories, and settings; enforce optional free-tier limits; deliver optional reminders.
• Subscriptions: Confirm premium access via Apple and RevenueCat.
• Analytics (if Clarity is present): Understand app usage patterns to improve stability and UX—not to read your private journal entries on our servers (journal content remains local as described above).
3. Sharing of personal data
We do not sell personal information.
We rely on service providers only as needed:
• Apple — distribution and payments.
• RevenueCat — subscription management.
• Microsoft — analytics if Clarity is included in the build.
We may disclose information if required by law, valid legal process, or to protect rights, safety, and security.
4. Legal basis (where applicable)
If GDPR or similar laws apply, we rely on:
• Performance of a contract / steps prior to contract — providing the Service.
• Legitimate interests — securing the app, improving the product (including analytics where used), and subscription administration—balanced against your rights.
• Consent — where required (e.g. notifications or certain SDKs, depending on platform rules).
5. Your rights and control
Depending on your region, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to certain processing, and data portability.
• Journal data on device: View, edit, and delete entries in the app; uninstall the app to remove app data from the device (backups may persist per Apple’s backup settings).
• Purchases: Manage subscriptions in your Apple ID settings; see Apple’s privacy resources for purchase history.
• Contact us: [your-email@example.com]
6. Children’s privacy
The App is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children in a way that violates applicable law. If you believe we have, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
7. International data transfers
RevenueCat, Microsoft, and Apple may process data in various countries per their policies. Your journal entry content remains on your device as described above; cross-border processing may still apply to subscription or analytics metadata handled by those providers.
8. Data retention
• On-device journal data: Until you delete it or remove the app.
• Apple / RevenueCat / Microsoft: Retention per their policies and legal requirements.
9. Security
We design the app so your journal content stays on your device. No method of storage is 100% secure. Protect your device, passcode, and Apple ID.
10. Policy updates and contact
We may update this Policy and will revise the “Last updated” date. Material changes may be communicated as required by law or via the App Store listing.

11. Response to privacy requests
We aim to respond to privacy-related requests within a reasonable time, typically within 30 days where applicable. Urgent safety issues should be directed to local emergency services; we are not a crisis service.
12. App Store compliance
Mood Journal complies with Apple’s App Store Review Guidelines. Subscriptions use Apple’s In-App Purchase system.
13. California privacy rights (CCPA / CPRA summary)
California residents may have rights to know, delete, and opt out of certain “sales” or “sharing.” We do not sell your personal information in the conventional sense. Requests about data held by Apple, RevenueCat, or Microsoft may need to be directed to those parties where they act as independent businesses. For questions about our practices, email [your-email@example.com].
14. European privacy rights (GDPR summary)
Where GDPR applies, you may have rights including access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection, and portability for personal data we determine together with processors. Much of your journal content is only on your device and is controlled by you directly. You may lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.
15. Health and wellness
Mood Journal supports personal reflection and self-care. It is not a medical device and does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Information you log is for your personal use; it is stored locally as described above.
Summary
Mood Journal keeps your journal and mood logs on your device by design. We do not run our own backend to store your diary content. Limited information may be processed by Apple, RevenueCat, and (if included) Microsoft Clarity for payments, subscriptions, and product improvement. We do not sell your personal information.
