Timeline Setting

The timeline used in 2flheimr is 2205, the same as in game Touken Ranbu setting. But the timezone between real world and Honmaru time is different. Time runs 10 times faster in Honmaru, so 1 day equal as 10 days in honmaru.

Multiverse

There is multiverse in this universe. The theory used here is the Quantum Mechanics. So if someone make a different decision, it will create a new universe. Similar with the one used in Everything Everywhere All at Once. The timeline Shiromi in is called as the "Alpha" timeline.

History

Because multiverse exist in this story, of course there were countless multiverses too in the past. So they are actually happened in the past.

So here's the twist, the "history" that Saniwas supposed to save was actually changing various history from countless other timelines. The Government of Time told all Saniwas that the "real" history is the history from the Alpha timeline, so Saniwa and Touken Danshi actually change the history from other timelines to the canon Alpha timeline's history.

Government of Time

The Government of Time want every timeline in the universe has the same history as the "Alpha" timeline. That's because they found out the end of the time is already near, and the "Alpha" timeline has the longest lifespan, and they tried several method to elongate this timeline.

The answer they found is, if every other timeline has the same history as the Alpha timeline, they can be used as the "fuel" to elongate the Alpha timeline. That's the reason why they make the Saniwa/Touken Danshi project.

Saniwa

Saniwas are regular people who are volunteered to work with the Government of Time. Saniwa might have different counterpart in the other timeline, but the Gov make it so one person can only apply as a Saniwa once. The same person from other timeline will not be accepted as a Saniwa when they already become one in another timeline. 

Becoming a Saniwa also meant that their timeline will not branching. So one person only eligible to have one Honmaru. 

Touken Danshi

Saniwa have the ability to manifest Japanese Swords into a human form, they are called as Touken Danshi. They will help Saniwa to fight the enemies and protect the history. 

In 2flheimr, Saniwa can freely change a Touken Danshi back and forth into their human form or sword form. 

Jikan Sokougun/History Retrogade

They're the enemies that Touken Danshi and Saniwa need to defeat to protect the history.

But, in the truth, they're actually the real "time police", as they're trying to protect the "original" history of each timelines.

Kebiishi/Justicar

According to the canon in game: 

Kebiishi is an enemy group that opposes both the Historical Revisionists and the player's forces. Their duty is to eliminate any foreign presence from the flow of time, no matter if they are trying to change history or preserve it.

But in this story, Kebiishi is actually the 'time police' that has been modified by the Government of Time to make sure that the mission are carried accordingly. Kebiishi are actually Touken Danshis too.
