About D99

District 99 is home to the three curricular orchestra classes at North and South High School, located in Downers Grove, Illinois. There are approximately 120 fantastic student musicians enrolled in the program, who participate in the Concert Orchestra, Symphonic Orchestra and Honors Symphonic Orchestra.

In addition to the string students in the Honors Symphonic Orchestra, this ensemble also recruits highly talented wind, brass and percussion players from the Wind Ensembles to perform full orchestra literature.

Outside of District 99, students also participate in the Illinois Music Education Association District and All-State ensembles, the IHSA Solo and Ensemble Contest, musical pit orchestra, jazz band and in an annual chamber music program, led by string quartet in residence, Grant Street String Quartet. The orchestra program has also had the opportunity to perform internationally in Spain, Germany, Croatia, Netherlands and Austria.
