There are many ways to get involved to help build this network across D5. If you are interested in helping to build this project in other ways, we welcome your suggestions.
At this early stage we have been focused on outreach - getting the word out about this and similar networks and groups in the D5 district, individual neighborhoods, and SF in general, putting up flyers around the district mostly outside apartments, parks, grocery stores, places where people still go out. A primary concern in doing this work is making sure efforts like these reach people who may need assistance but are not online or plugged into social circles offering this sort of help. Any help sharing this either online, via call, text or email, or putting up flyers is very much appreciated and needed.
We are also starting to help organize blocks throughout the District. The idea is that each block has a representative who can be responsible for communicating any needs to the wider network(s). This is critical to try and ensure no one is being overlooked and everyone is at least made aware of the offers of assistance that are available throughout the district. This is especially important for people who are self-isolating because they are senior or in at-risk groups and may be unable getting online or out of the house to see the flyers.
D5, like SF in general, has staggering inequity of resource distribution, which is reflected geographically. Just within D5, there are rich neighborhoods and ones without great access to the resources flowing freely elsewhere. Our hope is that the present inequities are not reproduced in the new, necessary solidarity networks being built around the City.
