From A Guarda to A Coruña
Adventure done on a bike, or better, an e-bike. Carried a tent, cooking set and full gear, so bike was heavy as hell. Route was extremely unorthodox. In 2022 I started in Vilagarcía de Arousa, on the Galician coast, and followed the coast to the south, until the border with Portugal. I followed in part the camiño spiritual, although I went more on the coast. Made 259km. Then, in 2024, I went back to Vilagarcía de Arousa and cycled to the north along the coast, a longer journey. Made 456km along the coast, plus 147km to return to the starting point. I followed the recent extension of Eurovelo1, which goes as far as Finisterra. The route also follows, in parts, the Camiño Espiritual, the Camiño de Muros, and the Camiño da Orixen, the last two in reverse. After Finisterre I cycled north to Muxia, and then followed, as far as possible, and in reverse, the camiño dos Faros (not a Santiago way, but a quite demanding walking route. I had to push the bike quite often up rocky and gravel narrow paths!). Faros (lighthouses) camiño took me to Malpica. After, I followed parts of the Via Celtica, and ended in La Coruña. After over 400km, I was too tired to continue on the coast (initial idea was to cycle all coastal Galicia), so I turned south and cycled camiño ingles to Santiago. Stopped for about 10 minutes and continued south, on the camiño portugues, again in reverse. After Pontecesures, I took the Spiritual route again, but now in reverse, to reach my origin point, where I had left my car. About 600km in 10 days; 5 days of extremely good weather, great beaches, and 5 days of grey skies and some rain.
