Safety is the responsibility of ALL road users. Vulnerable road users do not deliberately put themselves in dangerous situations. Maybe they are unfamiliar with the area, maybe there is a lack of signage and safe infrastructure.
Melbourne has a long way to go to make cycling safe for people of all ages and abilities. In the meantime safety messages need to be directed at the correct audience. Various advocacy groups and government departments at all levels, local, state & federal need to examine our road trauma statistics which will shown them where to direct their attention.
