Sailing Instructions: Weekly course to be published begins on Sunday and ends Saturday midnight (UNLESS specifically otherwise noted). Sail the published course any time during the week and click here to fill out the 2025 score form to be put on the board. One point per weekly completion (no time need be reported, but course must be completed in a single, continuous sail). The Start and Finish line is an imaginary line drawn between the S-Mark and the CYC Masthead and extending entirely across the river.
A crew board will be kept as well as captain/vessel. Cruising fleet "patch" for anyone (Captain or Crew) who scores two points - if requested (contact Mark Maxam). Swag awards for series winner(s), who are the sailor(s) who top the leaderboard with the most points during each series; there may be more than one winner.
You must file a report within the week you are sailing to be scored!
This is it... last series of the season, and often the one with the best wind! Let's get out for some fall sailing! C-Series will be known as the "bonus" Series. Each week, there will be a 0.5 point bonus for something in particular. You will need to describe how you met the condition in the comments for the extra 0.5 points.
Course C1: Sunday, August 31 through Saturday, September 6. All vessels sail course S-F-D-S (port-side roundings). Sail twice around on the same date and report it in the comments for an extra 0.5 points.
Course C2: Sunday September 7 through Saturday, September 13. Vessels less than 26 feet in length sail course S-J-N-I-W-S (starboard side roundings). Vessels 26 feet or greater LOA, sail course S-J-D-I-W-S (starboard side roundings). For an extra 0.5 points, sail the course with at least 3 crew listed!
Course C3: Sunday September 14 through Saturday, September 20. All vessels sail course S-W-D-W-D-S (port side roundings). For an extra 0.5 points, a crew member on board other than the person listed as "Captain" must helm the boat through the whole course (coaching is allowed).
Course C4: Sunday, September 21 through Saturday, September 27. All vessels sail course S-G-S (port side roundings) if the windspeed is above 5 knots at the start of sailing. If windspeed is below 5 knots at the start to sailing, sail course S-W-S (port side roundings). For an extra 0.5 points this week, while you're sailing, each crew member sing a verse of your favorite song and report what you sang in the comments. Just a suggestion, but it'd be really cool if the song were Plastic Jesus.
Course C5: Sunday, September 28 through Satuday, October 4. All vessels sail course S-J-W-S (port side roundings). For an extra 0.5 points, after you sail the course forward, sail it with the buoys in reverse order (starboard side roundings).
Course C6: Sunday, October 5 through Saturday, October 11. All vessels sail course S-C-S (port side roundings). For an extra 0.5 points, wait until after 4pm to start the course, and serve snacks on board for all crew. Just a suggestion, but wine and cheese sounds really nice for a sunset cruise. Enjoy the sunset. Don't forget to turn your running lights on at dusk.
Course C7: Sunday, October 12 through Saturday, October 18. All vessels sail course S-W-R-S (port side roundings). This is it! The last of the cruising fleet courses for the year. It's not yet Halloween, but this is as close as we get to it... so for an extra 0.5 points, Captain and crew wear costumes and describe them in the comments. Addendum: it has come to our attention that race marks have been removed. Too bad. You do not get off this easy. The cruising fleet does not cancel. Guesstimate marks that are not there and get those costumes ready!!!
A reminder to everyone: the official Start Line for the course is a line drawn perpendicularly across the river through two points: the CYC Flagpole (Masthead) and the S-Mark. Therefore - all you must do is start and finish on the correct side of that imaginary line drawn all the way across the river; Cross the line going the correct direction and you've started; and cross it again after rounding all the marks of the course and you've finished. When you see the S-Mark and the masthead line up, you're on the line!
