How are players selected?
Players are selected through open trials run by the appointed representative coaches. Players are assessed across batting, bowling, fielding, game awareness and attitude.
Who selects the teams?
The appointed coaches select the teams, as they will be responsible for developing and coaching the players throughout the training program and the season.
How many players are selected?
Each team will consist of:
13 selected players
2 reserve players
What are reserve players?
Reserve players train with the team and may be called to join the team if one of the selected players has to withdraw from the team. They remain an important part of the rep program.
When will teams be announced?
Teams will be announced shortly after trials to allow families to plan ahead and for teams to begin training early.
What if my child cannot attend the trial?
If a player is unable to attend due to an unavoidable commitment, please contact the association in advance. We will consider circumstances on a case-by-case basis.
What is the purpose of pre-season training?
Pre-season training allows the team to:
build team cohesion
develop core cricket skills
improve game awareness
prepare for the season
Who runs the training sessions?
All sessions are run by the appointed representative coaches, ensuring consistency from selection through to the season.
What will training focus on?
Training will focus on:
fielding and core skills
batting and bowling fundamentals
match scenarios and decision-making
team-based preparation
When will pre-season training run?
For U12 to U17 Division 1 teams, pre-season training will run through July and August. For U11 and U12-U17 Division 2 teams, pre-season training will run through September and October.
The training day for each team will be communicated closer to the start of training and will be dependent on coach and venue availability.
Is pre-season training mandatory?
We encourage all selected players to attend as many sessions as possible, as this is an important part of team preparation and development.
Will there be a cost for pre-season training?
The cost for pre-season training will be $175 per child to cover venue hire and coaching.
Will all players get an opportunity to participate?
Yes. Over the course of the season, players will be given opportunities to contribute, while also supporting team balance and match situations.
How are positions and roles decided?
Coaches will set team roles based on:
team balance
match conditions
player strengths and development areas
Will players be able to take on leadership roles?
Yes. Particularly in older age groups, players will be encouraged to develop leadership skills, with captains and senior players involved in on-field decision-making.
What is the goal of the representative program?
The program aims to provide a balance of:
player development
team experience
competitive cricket
in a positive and supportive environment.
Is this program focused on development or winning?
Both are important. The program focuses on developing players while also preparing teams to compete at a representative level.
How will communication be managed?
Communication will be provided through team managers and coaches, with key dates and updates shared as early as possible.
