International Staff

We hire international staff who have a J-1 visa. Staff must work with a sponsoring agency - Girl Scouts Nation's Capital and Camp Winona do not sponsor visas for staff. Currently we have an agreement signed with Camp America, and the bulk of our international staff come through Camp America and Camp Leaders. 

There are two types of J1 visas: camp counselor and camp power/support. Applicants with a camp power/support J-1 visa can only work in support positions, such as kitchen assistant, facilities assistant, and media/office specialist. Applicants with a J-1 camp counselor visa work with directly with campers in positions such as unit (general) counselor, unit leader, aquatic specialist, adventure specialist, and program specialists.

Historically we have had about a third of our staff be international.
