Cara Whitehead recently retired at the Technology Director for Attalla City Schools, Alabama.  Prior to that, she was the Assistant Principal at Crossville Middle School.  She has also served as the Technology Coordinator for Boaz City Schools, the Instructional Specialist at Corley Elementary School in Boaz, AL, the Instructional Partner at John S. Jones Elementary School and Rainbow Middle School in Rainbow City, Alabama and was a  4th grade teacher, technology coordinator, and webmaster at Carlisle Elementary School in Boaz, Alabama, where she was part of the faculty since 1997.  In 2009, she became a National Board Certified Teacher in the area of Literacy: Reading/Language Arts.  Cara served as 1st Vice President of the Alabama National Board Certified Teachers Network where she was a member of the board of directors since 2012.  She currently serves as a member of the Alabama Council for Leadership Development alongside others who have distinguished themselves by leading sustained student achievement in their schools or LEAs.

Cara obtained her Doctorate in Education (Ed.D) in Educational Leadership from the University of the Cumberlands in 2017. She graduated from The University of Alabama as an Educational Specialist (Ed.S) in Educational Leadership.   Also, Cara is an alumnus of Jacksonville State University.  She holds certification in the areas of Instructional Leadership, Early Childhood Education, and Elementary Education.  

Cara has had multiple opportunities to present at the district, state, and national levels in the areas of technology and literacy.  Aside from teaching, Cara has worked as a social media consultant with the educational website, VocabularySpellingCity.  Throughout the years, she has worked with Promethean as a member of the Social Media Council and is a certified Promethean ActivInstructor.  As an avid blogger (http://teachingmycalling.blogspot.com) and Twitterer (@whiteheadsclass), she knows the importance of collaboration with other educators.  Cara’s classroom was deemed a model classroom to host teachers to view and discuss small group and differentiated instruction.  She is a member of Council for Leaders in Alabama Schools (CLAS), International Society of Technology in Education (ISTE), and Alabama Educational Technology Association (AETA). Some of her honors include Jacksonville State University Alumni Hall of Fame Inductee, Top Elementary Teachers on Twitter, Top Fifty School Technology Blogs, Carlisle Elementary School’s Teacher of the Year, and membership into the UA Omicron Chapter of Alpha Epsilon Lambda.

Cara is happily married to Anthony.  They are the proud parents to two adult children, Forrest and Hannah, and a kitty, Charley.  Cara recently became the grandmother to the most precious granddaughters, Stella, Marty, and Violet.  Cara is an active member of First Baptist Church of Boaz where she teaches a ladies Sunday school class.  In her free time, Cara enjoys cooking and sewing.
