Canyon Vista Middle School has a long history of various STEM related student run clubs. But over the years, it has become apparent to the school as well as the parents that we do not have a sustainable plan or structure to support such activities. At the beginning of every school year, we often scramble to solve various logistics problems. Sponsor teachers are not only needed to be present at every club meeting, but also have to handle scheduling, event registration and work through various administrative processes. In addition, fundraising is difficult without a 501(c)(3) organization. This poses a significant challenge for some clubs, e.g. robotics.

In 2019 a group of parents met with the administration of Canyon Vista Middle School as well as Round Rock ISD and decided that there is a need for a 501(c)(3) organization to facilitate fundraising and also to instill better procedures and guidance for the STEM clubs at Canyon Vista Middle School, passing knowledge down through grades. CVMS STEM is a volunteer organization whose board members consist of parents, all of whom donate their time and resources with the aim of keeping the administrative costs of Canyon Vista Middle School low.
