SSHRC Insight Grant: Giving Where They Operate: Biodiversity Governance and Corporate Philanthropy (Lead CI: Lilian Ng, York University)
This project examines how firms give where they operate, deploying philanthropy when located near protected areas where ecological, regulatory, and community pressures converge. While corporate donations can provide valuable resources, their underlying incentives remain unclear. The project examines whether corporate donations represent genuine support for biodiversity conservation, or are strategically directed to influence outcomes that enhance the firm's regulatory and market position. It also examines whether such giving affects outcomes such as the designation or size of protected areas, the enforcement of biodiversity rules, and investor responses in financial markets.

University of Sydney Horizon Fellowship: Corporate Philanthropy: Mobilizing Corporate Resources for the Common Good (Lead CI)
This project aims to identify patterns in international corporate philanthropy, the effects of the political environment, regulation, supply chains, and corporate takeovers, and how corporate giving can provide value not only for shareholders, but also for society. It will identify what drives companies to give to charity, and how their giving can be mobilized to address global challenges.

ARC DECRA DE220100362: Disaster Relief Philanthropy: Can Corporate Giving Increase Firm Value? (Lead CI)
This project aims to investigate the stock price effects of corporate philanthropy by applying event study methods to the setting of natural disasters in a global dataset of corporate disaster-relief giving. Expected outcomes include the ability to identify the institutional and governance-related determinants of corporate giving and their effects on firm value and stock prices. This should provide significant benefits by contributing to a framework of corporate giving that can increase firms' incentives to provide disaster-relief giving and that can ensure donations are aligned with the needs of affected communities.
