The first tournament of Revolution’s seventh rotation concluded this past month at Grand Prix Niokana! Although we were sad to see Svergard go, this rotation brought us a burst of color, light, and especially sound in the form of Dr. Platypeople's Hyperpop! Celebrating modern pop and EDM, Hyperpop brought a suite of new mechanics and strategies to the format with a decidedly multicolored bent. 22 players brought 14 unique decks to the table, spanning aggro strategies built around Spinmaster, Rampy Midrange decks that won using Grand Consonance, and slow Grixis Control decks that burned players out with Gleaming Laser.
In the finals, RickyRister faced Reuben. RickyRister brought with them Consonance Midrange, a ramp-based midrange deck that took advantage of Grand Consonance to produce obscene amounts of value, with a solid plan B of fairly casting bombs like Furycall Hellion and As'ahai, the Warsong. By contrast, Reuben brought an Esper Control deck with a combo finish, using Primordial of Emila Glade and Start Anew to infinitely recur Dabbling Dangerously and Captivating Dreams. After three close-fought matches, RickyRister emerged victorious!
While Grand Consonance is the headliner of Ricky's deck, they attributed most of their wins to the potent shell surrounding it: namely Wildcourt Seeker, which gave the deck explosive ramping potential, and Furycall Hellion, which served as spot removal, targeted hate, and a wincon, all in a nice hellion-shaped package!
Congrats to RickyRister for their win! And remember, if you're interested in brewing something of your own or seeing how the meta adapts to this tournament, there's no better time than now to join the revolution!
