Featuring platypeople
This month, we are featuring Prismavision, a project being developed by platypeople. To see the project in full, check out its set page here! https://platypeople.github.io/sets/POP2
In a few sentences, what is the premise of Prismavision?
"Prismavision is a sequel to Hyperpop set on its plane of Prismavera. Prismavera is hosting its annual Prismavision Song Contest (inspired by the Eurovision Song Contest) and contestants from across the plane and beyond are vying for the title!"
Where would you say Prismavision is in the development process?
"Prismavision has almost reached its first full file. At that benchmark the plan is to initiate more limited and field test testing (if I can manage to fill out art for the remaining slots in time!)"
What inspired you to begin creating Prismavision?
"A combination of a love of Eurovision and the idea that MDFCs could be used to represent a singer and their signature song. This structure seemed like a great avenue to bring back the otherwise-fraught concept of legendary sorceries as well. That plus development on a 'performance' mechanic that I'd been workshopping for a long time finally hitting an exciting spot felt like enough material to try and build another set."
Prismavision is a sequel to another set, Hyperpop, which saw play in our custom standard format Revolution. What lessons from Hyperpop’s time in Revolution have you brought forward into Prismavision?
"Hyperpop was a very loose set mechanically, with very few particularly picky demands from its mechanics (play more colors, take lots of game actions in one turn, play a diversity of card types, nothing earth-shattering). That meant that when I was developing the more constructed-oriented parts of the set that there wasn't all that much consideration put towards self-synergy between cards. Many of the cards were built towards the vague idea of a slot in a deck that may or may not exist or were meant as buildarounds that would really have to lean on the presence of specific tools potentially being present in other sets. As Hyperpop's time in Revolution comes to a close, I come away hoping to build in a bit more intentionality in constructed synergies between cards in Prismavision, even though this set is also fairly mechanically loose."
Eurovision is a beloved part of European culture, with hundreds of millions of viewers annually from around the world. What aspects of the show are most important to you when designing for Prismavision?
"I hope to capture the level of cultural diversity and musical diversity on display at Eurovision, as well as the many possible approaches to constructing a compelling performance."
What is your favorite card in Prismavision?
"Hard to pick, today it's Bebop Bob and his Prismavision entry "Brass Derby." I'm excited about the art find (36 MDFCs is quite demanding on the art assets) and I think it showcases really well both the themes of the set and the kinds of designs that are possible with this structure"
Would you like to give any special thanks to anyone on this server for their help?
"Too many to thank; anyone who's hung out in the channel so far, know you are loved and appreciated."
