Revolution, July, 2023 –
The third tournament of Revolution’s seventh rotation concluded this past month at Grand Prix Thunderbrain Labs! Archetypes new and old clashed in this 7-round, 17-player tournament featuring 14 unique archetypes, including fan favorites like 4-Color Consonance and UW Artifacts, as well as rising stars like RW Aggro and Jund Recon!
The finals brought together two archetypes that have dominated the field this past rotation. In the right corner, to no one’s surprise, RickyRister returned to the arena armed with 4-Color Consonance! Consonance had been considered the deck to beat going into this tournament, having won the previous two GPs this rotation, including once at Ricky’s own hands. But the deck has had to contend with a number of nerfs to its core cards, including the beloved Wildcourt Seeker. Did Consonance still have the tools it needed to go all the way?
And in the left corner, Requiem arrived with a terrifyingly fast and consistent RW Aggro deck! With cards like Spinmaster and Spirited Protest, the deck aimed to hit hard and fast by amping it up, while using Yaeji to squeeze out value and grind through longer games. RW Spinmaster decks had been some of the most popular and explosive decks upon Hyperpop’s release, but their popularity had waned after a series of nerfs. Requiem returned to this almost forgotten deck and breathed new life into it, souping up the deck with a go-wide plan courtesy of token-makers and Emphatic Beat. Would it be enough to unseat the champion?
After three close and well-fought games in the finals, RickyRister emerged victorious, earning their second GP win on Consonance and securing another coveted Touhou-themed promo for Drift Off! Congratulations to Ricky, well fought to Requiem, and remember: if you’re interested in playing some awesome custom magic, the best time to join the revolution is now!
