Inspired by Ed Hawkins's "Warming Stripes" project (https://showyourstripes.info/) we developed a community created art piece we call a Climate Histogram. Using data from NOAA or https://berkeleyearth.org/ we create a datasheet with average daily high temperatures (Tmax) for each year for a particular region (e.g. Colorado or Antartica) for the past 75 years. We also have a rangle of fabric swatches set out and sorted into temperature ranges according to the climate stripe convention--intensity of reds and blues vary across a spectrum based on how much hotter or cooler that year was compared to the overal average for the dataset. We ask people to find their birth year on the datasheet and then the corresponding fabric for that average temperature. They then attach their fabric piece to a string corresponding to their birthyear. The final result is 75 years of Warming Stripes for that region, and a snapshot of the age distribution of attendees at the event!
