HARDCORE CLIMBERS ONLY 5.13+ OR BUST BABY
Kidding.. We are a group of undergraduate and graduate students at Columbia University who like to climb! The club is open to anyone who is a member of the Dodge fitness center, regardless of climbing grade or prior climbing experience. We have weekly practices at a gym near morningside and try to go on outdoor trips as often as possible when the weather is nice. We also have other climbing-related events like Reel Rock watch parties and skills seminars, but we are mainly a social hub for climbers at Columbia and an effort to make climbing more accessible. We partner with our climbing gym to offer discounts on monthly fees, and we are funded by Columbia Club Sports to secure gear and transportation for outdoor climbing trips which are free for members!
CURC is all of those things, but it is also more than just a way to fund climbing trips and meet a partner. CURC is loading the van at 6am on a saturday to go to the gunks, and falling asleep on someone you've never met before, who will later belay you up your first outdoor rope climb ever (for better or worse hehe). CURC is playing add-on on the spray wall with your gym squad because you're tired of team kids flashing all your projects but you don't want to leave before group core at the end of practice. It's freezing your butt off in the middle of the night in Rumney because you ignored the email that mentioned the low of 13°F that night. CURC is having seniors show you how to coil a rope five hundred times but somehow every time you try it the rope ends up a lopsided mess. Idk it's just special and also cool anyway here are some rocks:
If you ever meet any of the senders pictured here, make sure you offer them a belay and ask them to share some CURC lore :0
