Where Jazz meets Blues
Check out CURL playing Aretha Franklin's "Won't Be Long," live at Centennial Square, Victoria BC (Sept. 2016).
CURL’s music, fueled by the heartfelt vocals of Helen Davies, has a distinct R&B edge reminiscent of Etta James and Aretha Franklin. However, jazz-infused piano (Dee Cooper) and unique guitar styling (Jazz Fouladianpour) bring the band's softer side forward, allowing Helen's voice to also shine on torch songs from legendary singers such as k.d. Lang, Peggy Lee and Nina Simone.
CURL’s new CD, Under the Table Wine, released in 2017, features collaborations with Maple Blues and Juno nominee Bill Johnson as well as saxophonist Gene Hardy, (Michael Buble, the Barenaked Ladies, Colin James). CURL has been featured at Victoria’s Blues Bash, the Nanaimo Summer Blues Festival and on Victoria television station, CHEK TV.
CURL's 2013 CD, All My Fault, is available on CD Baby.
