Before starting this exercise, as a Biology teacher, Virtuali-Tee was familiar to me as a fascinating AR application in anatomy, but I had not thought about the consequences if it were adopted by schools or funded by investors on a larger scale. The EVA exercise made me think differently and look at things from a teacher’s point of view, such as asking, “Is this fun and useful in my class,” to an investor’s point of view, such as asking, “Is this something I can invest in or adopt.”
In my perspective as an educational venture analyst, I think Virtuali-Tee is ready for some targeted pilot programs and partnerships, but it is definitely not ready for large-scale, district-wide deployment yet. In terms of classroom experience, the main benefit that I could see from using Virtuali-Tee was its ability to teach students about body systems, accommodate different learning styles, and make abstract concepts tangible through interactive experiences. The fact that there are lessons, pathways, and teacher guides shows that the product is created based on educational considerations, not as an innovation for fun.
At the same time, I would never recommend using Virtuali-Tee as a substitute for labs, dissections, writing activities, or deeper reasoning about physiology. In order to be an important part of the curriculum and a valid investment for institutions, it should prove its ability to deliver concrete learning outcomes and provide necessary implementation support.
However, given the recent developments in AI and the changes they brought to teachers’ practices in the classroom, I think it is important for educational stakeholders to ask, “Where is education heading.” AI has already brought rapid changes, but this has made me wonder whether it is being implemented effectively.
Analyzing Virtuali-Tee has also helped me to reconsider my vision for my future products in immersive learning. I realize now that innovation and engagement cannot suffice by themselves, and schools and investors require something more than just new technology.
