This child is perusing the comics in his local supermarket. (Beano, Pokemon, Peppa Pig, Fortnight and Match of the Day)
Also on display at his eyeline are some women's chat magazines with the headlines that include... "We found poor Mum CHOPPED UP in the KITCHEN BIN", "TORTURED TO DEATH" and "MUM WAS EXCITED Dad got me PREGNANT".
Every week, over a million of these magazines are sold and every week, new ones appear with even more "real life" sex and violence with even more adult-themed headlines.
The children see them and absorb the messages. Sex and violence, rape and torture, it's just part of everyday life. and men are always responsible for these evil acts. Women and children are always victims. Child abuse and incest is to be expected, especially from fathers.
Yet we all got angry when the "lad's mags" put naked women on the covers of their magazines. We said that having these magazines on the shelf made it acceptable to treat women as objects and encouraged children to think the same way. So, how are these Chat Mags any different? How is it ok to print ONLY those stories that support their world-view that men are evil, child-killing rapists?
These magazines display adult material and should be moved to the top shelves and sealed in bags, as the lad's mags are.
In case you're wondering why there are no lad's mags on the top shelves, it's because this national supermarket has a policy NOT to display ANY adult magazines.
(...except for the women's chat mags, obviously)

The supermarket has decided to display them down on the shelves, just above the children's comics such as Spiderman, Peppa Pig and Frozen.
As an extra temptation, they're also selling chocolates and sweets from a tray positioned right in front of the magazines, also at child height.
New women's chat magazines appear every week, each one containing more salacious "real life" horror stories of hideous deaths, sex murders, violent rape, incest and mutilations for the children to read.
