The CUCC Christmas pageant in 2014 was held on December 14. The photos shown here were taken by Richard Nicholl.
The 2019 Christmas pageant was presented on December 8 by a large cast of children and youth, a few adults, and one baby. The Christmas pageant is a long-standing tradition at CUCC, and the director for the production again this year was Anne Bailey Zschau. The confirmation program for 2016 was extended over two Sundays (May 29 and June 5). Erik Burkhardt gave his confirmation statement during 10:30 worship on May 29. Thanks to Paul Kiel for spontaneously making a video clip of Erik's statement, but since the audio track is a bit faint we're including a PDF version of Erik's statement as well.
Mason Atkinson gave his confirmation statement on June 5. The video below includes Mason's statement as well as Erik's. Both confirmands offered thanks to all those adults in the church who had taken the time and effort to help with their confirmation process and share from their own lives.
The annual Youth Sunday event was held on March 20, 2016. The youth of the church presented the entire 10:30 worship service. The video here shortens some of the longer parts of the service that involved little speaking, and the singing of the hymns is omitted. But the essence of the service is retained in this 34-minute film.
Special thanks to Karen Withem for help with the filming. Because of the rapid back and forth usage of the two pulpits, it's impossible to get a good video with a single camera. Karen's knowledge of how to handle such situations and her steady camera in the back of the sanctuary made this film possible. Enjoy!
Confirmation Sunday was June 7, 2015. Those confirmed were Cooper Atkinson, Alex Bowen, Zenna Bryan, Brooke Lipman, and Caitlin Longmire. The ceremony shown here includes the complete program with the exception of short videos made by Cooper Atkinson and Zenna Bryan. (Those will be added as soon as they are available on YouTube.) The opening remarks are by Deb Lipman, and the ceremony includes participation by Pastor Peg Williams and Youth Leader Śānti Matthews.

The production for this season ran about 26 minutes long, and is shown here in its entirety.
Each fall the first Sunday after Labor Day it's customary to hold Welcoming Sunday. Here's a 4-minute video from the 2015 Welcoming Sunday celebration.
This is a slightly condensed of the worship service on March 15, 2015. The entire service was led by CUCC youth. The video below (34 min.) shows the entire service except for singing of some hymns and other songs by the congregation, and portions of long periods of silence such as silent prayers and the offering.
Welcoming Sunday in 2014 was held on September 7. The theme was "An Extravagant Welcome". Here's the 7-minute video that features the activities of Welcoming Sunday 2014.
On February 8, 2015, Rev. Peg Williams was inducted as intentional interim pastor at Community UCC. This brief ceremony was conducted during the 10:30 worship service by Geraldine Bryan, Chair of the Deacons.
On August 23, 2014, Śānti Matthews and church youth organized a dog walk which included a blessing of the animals. This event took place at Lake Johnson in Raleigh, and the dog walk explored the western half of the Lake Johnson loop, a scenic part of the trail about 2 miles in length. The blessing of the animals was held about half way through that 2-mile loop.
The "Festival of Lights" program was held at Community UCC in Raleigh NC on November 30, 2014 (the first Sunday of Advent). This 4-minute liturgical dance was performed by Alex Cox, Brooke Lipman, and Emily Perkins as part of the Festival of Lights service.
At Community UCC there is a long tradition of celebrating Palm Sunday by waving palm branches during a processional into the sanctuary. Participants include Sunday worshipers as well as the choir which leads the way. In 2014 Palm Sunday fell on April 13, and the processional is shown here.
