Advancement(s) – The process of meeting requirements and earning recognition in the Cub Scout program; also used to collectively refer to earned belt loops and pins (‘handing out advancements”)
Arrow of Light – The highest rank a Cub Scout can achieve, earned at the end of the Arrow of Light (5th grade) year. The AOL badge is the only Cub Scout badge that can be worn on the Scouts BSA uniform.
Blue & Gold Banquet – Special annual family event with food, awards, and entertainment. Intended to celebrate the anniversary of Cub Scouts, which was formed in 1930, and thank volunteers. Blue and gold/yellow are Cub Scout colors.
Bridging – Special ceremony where AOL Scouts who have earned their Arrow of Light rank cross over from Cub Scouts to Scouts BSA.
Chartered Organization – An educational, civic, religious, or other community organization that owns and operates a Cub Scout Pack. They work under a charter from the BSA. Pack 3374 is chartered by Nativity of Mary Catholic Church.
Class A Uniform – The official Cub Scout uniform.
Class B Shirt – Casual, scouting-related t-shirt.
Council – An administrative body chartered to be responsible for Scouting in a designated geographic territory. Pack 3374 is within the Northern Star Council, which covers 21 counties in Minnesota and four counties in western Wisconsin.
Cubmaster – Leader of a Cub Scout Pack.
Den – A group of Cub Scouts who are in the same grade.
District – A geographic administrative unit within a council. Pack 3374 is within District N, which includes Bloomington, Burnsville, Eden Prairie, Prior Lake, Richfield, Savage, and Shakopee.
Pack – A group of Dens of all ranks (grades K-5).
Pinewood Derby – Cub Scout racing event. With help from their parents, Cub Scouts design and build a race car using a kit that contains a block of pine wood, plastic wheels, and axles made from nails. The cars are raced down an official track, powered only by gravity. Many siblings and parents get in on the action by entering family cars as well.
Rank – Cub Scouts are grouped by grade into specific ranks. Kindergarteners are Lions, first graders are Tigers, second graders are Wolves, third graders are Bears, fourth graders are Webelos, and fifth graders are Arrow of Light Scouts. Scouts work on their rank badge throughout the year. They earn their official rank badge once they meet all the requirements for the rank.
Webelos – This rank's name stands for WE'll BE LOyal Scouts.
