Conference Prep Series

Description: Join BMES, BMEW and Careers Beyond Academia in any of these hands-on workshops: 

Assembling an Abstract

When: 2-3:30pm, May 10th


Where: Weill Hall 125


Description: Join BMES, BMEW and Careers Beyond Academia in earning how to prepare for conferences. The workshop is designed to help craft compelling research narratives that are easy to understand. This is a great opportunity to set a solid foundation for any upcoming conference presentations.

Wildflower Planting Event

When: 4pm-5pm, Monday, April 22nd


Where: Weill Hall outside by Room 125


Description: 

Join BMEW in planting some wildflower seeds. The wildflowers are native to upstate New York. You’ll get to take home your potted flower seeds and watch them grow!

Professional Lunch Series #1

When: Friday, March 12th, 12pm

Where: Weill Hall, Room 121G

Description: Our first lunch of the professional lunch series will be with 

Dr. Kerrie Douglas from Purdue University. 


Dr. Douglas is an associate professor of Engineering Education at Purdue University. She completed her bachelor’s in Psychology at Purdue, and went on to get a Master’s in Counseling and a PhD in Educational Psychology also from Purdue. Her current research interests are evidence and rationale that inform how evaluation and assessments are used to make decisions and support learning in engineering education. Research focus includes methods to determine criteria for evaluation of open online advanced STEM courses, evidence and rationale to justify fair use of assessments for engineering students of diverse backgrounds, and how high-quality, curriculum-embedded formative assessment can enhance student learning of design skills. Dr. Douglas is a recipient of the National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER Award. Her CAREER project aims to inform the field of engineering education by identifying how engineering education instructors and researchers can increase the fairness of assessments. Through its integrated research and education plans, the work will improve decision-making in engineering education and achievement for students of Color.

International Women's Day Trivia

Join BMEW in celebrating the accomplishments of women in Stem! Along the way you will learn some trivia about exceptional women in STEM and maybe win some cool BMEW stickers!!

Galentine's Cookie Decorating  

When: Wednesday, February 14th, 2:00-3:00pm

Where: Weill Hall, Room B30

Description:

Join BMEW in decorating cookies, enjoying Valentine’s candy, and watching some classic Valentine’s TV episodes. If you are interested in attending, please fill out our Cookie Decorating Event Interest Form. We ask that those interested in attending fill it out by Monday 2/12, (so we have time to make the cookies). Please note that we will only have traditional sugar cookies (with eggs, dairy, gluten), so if you would like to participate, but have dietary restrictions please bring a few cookies to decorate with us or share with the group!
