Pack 44,
At long last, we are able to share the results of our popcorn fundraiser! I've attached the results, as well as a flyer showing all the prizes that will be available for the scouts.
Scouts receive 1 point for each $1 in popcorn sold, which can be redeemed for prizes. Prizes will be redeemed "store-style" at our meeting on May 13th.
If your scout did not participate in the fundraiser, fear not! You will be able to purchase points for them at the meeting the discounted rate of 25 cents per point (4 for a dollar).
Popcorn orders should be available for pickup at the May 13th meeting as well. If you sold order form popcorn please try to be there, or make alternate arrangements with me to get it.
If anyone is interested in helping run the prize store, please let me know.
Also, the maths got a bit complicated at times. If you feel there is an error, and your scout is not getting credit for their work, please let me know.

Hey Pack 44!
Our second service project is this weekend! Service projects are a requirement for Scout advancement to the next rank, and this is our last opportunity as a pack. We are having a beach cleanup out at DNR, at the end of Ft. Johnson Road. We'll meet at 9am, near the outdoor classroom building where the trails are, which is on your left down the road into the complex. All gloves and supplies will be provided. Please note that as of now, we anticipate the gates will be locked, and you'll need to park outside the gates (we suggest using Pinckney Park) and then walking or biking in.
Our next Pack Meeting is this Tuesday, April 8, at 6p at St. James. We will be discussing the upcoming Spring Campout! Signups and information should be out by next week, and the deadline to register is April 25. Please also use this opportunity to hand in your popcorn fundraising order forms if you haven't already. If you do not hand them in by the meeting, those orders will not be fulfilled.
We will also be asking for Cub volunteers to help deliver Thank You plaques to those who have helped us this year, like the Mayor and Master Reggie.
Fundraising notes: besides the order forms, we have two opportunities left to sell in person, and we are still short of our goal so any help is appreciated!
-this Friday (April 4) at the Town Market
-April 12 at the Cajun Fest at JI County Park
If you are interested in having your scout help fundraise at either event, please reach out ASAP!
We also have Camp Cards to sell! Each discount card sells for $10, $5 the scout can apply to dues, camp, etc. Please reach out if you'd like to sell some.

Hey Pack 44!
We hope everyone had a great time learning about fitness, nutrition and karate at last night's pack meeting! We'd also like to commend the Scouts on their listening and calm behavior! As we discussed, we expect each den to have made a code of conduct, and expect the scouts to not be screaming, rough housing or running through the halls at our meetings, with the help of their parents.
NAMETAGS: we are working on permanent parent nametags for our pack meetings and large events - if you took yours with you, please bring it back at the next meeting! We also used the parent names listed in Scoutbook, so if yours was not there, please shoot me an email so I can make you one, and same if something was spelled wrong!
We'd also like to encourage ALL parents and guardians to complete BSA's Youth Protection Training (YPT). All trained leaders do this, and it is a free online series that any parent can take as well on the BSA website. Scouting has many policies intended to keep our kids safe, but they may not all be immediately obvious. Thanks!
DUES: Most of the pack will have dues coming due in the next month or so, and as a reminder you will now be receiving an email from National and will need to pay through them directly. We are collecting our pack's dues of $20 separately, and if you have not already done so for the 24/25 year, can pay at this link: https://cub-scouts-pack-44.square.site/product/2024-2025-dues/11?cs=true&cst=custom

Pack 44,
We had a great kickoff party with lots of new faces!
Thanks to Shannon for stepping up as Membership Chair, and greeting folks at the door.
Thanks to Patrick Yanoti who has taken up the reigns as Treasurer.
A special thanks to the Den Leaders!!! I know most of you, like me, volunteered so that your kids could have the best Scouting experience possible. I hope the influx of new scouts wasn’t too overwhelming.
Thanks also to Raymond, Lauton, Adam and Lindsay the newest additions to our volunteer group. They’ve all been in the Pack for about 2 minutes and have already volunteered. Eden is a Pack 44 veteran, and has made it a point to help at previous events and is now officially an event committee member.
Den Leaders: please make it a point to check Scoutbook regularly over the next several weeks. As new scouts join, Matt and I will be placing them into Dens. We will try to notify you when new scouts are added, but we may miss someone and want to make sure that new families are getting the information they need to get involved. When you see a new name on your Scoutbook roster, please reach out with your Den Schedule and contact information.
Also, I know many of you saw a huge influx of scouts to your dens on Tuesday. Please bear with us as we try to get all the new families assimilated. It would be extremely helpful if you could gauge new parents interest in volunteering as a Den Leader. Our goal is to have dens of 8-10 scouts, so Dens bigger than that should really be trying to recruit a parent to start a new Den.
Hey Pack 44!
Hope everyone had a great summer! We are excited to get our scouting season started, and hope to see everyone at the kickoff meeting on Tuesday, August 27, 6pm at St. James. This meeting is also for any interested families, so bring a friend if you like!

Hi Everyone,
Hope your scouts are working hard on their Pinewood Derby cars for Saturday! A few notes for the day of - the Scout Troop will also be on site, holding their BBQ Chicken Fundraiser in the church parking lot, and it is a drive-thru. For this reason, we ask that you use the parking over by Town Hall, or across the street by Smoky Yolk and Paisano’s.
If you would like to order a lunch of BBQ Chicken, collards, red rice and cornbread, use the link below to support Troop 44!
https://www.susatroop44.org/product/bbq-chicken-dinner-one-meal/12
Friday afternoon from 4-6pm, we will be setting up for the Derby at St. James, if anyone would like to come help, or stop by to test their cars on the track ahead of time.
The Pinewood Derby will be held Saturday morning, March 2nd, with check-in times as listed:
Lions: 9:00 am
Tigers: 9:30 am
Wolves: 10:00 am
Bears: 10:30 am
Jr. Webelos: 11:00 am
Sr. Webelos: 11:30 am
Girls Webelos Den: 12:00 pm
Siblings race (optional): 12:30 pm (same rules as Scout's race)
Grand Finale Race: 1:00 pm
To reiterate all the rules and such:
We will follow a similar format as last year. Please note that races will begin no later than 30 min after the check in time. If all participants check in early and are ready, we will start the race at that time. This will help us stay on track to complete our day around lunch.
We will also have a “Best in Show” design competition. This will be the top 5 for the entire pack. Judging for this will be done by panelist voting, and will happen after the completion of the grand finale race. If you are unable to stay until the end you may leave your car to compete in this class and they will be collected for return by your den leader.
HELPFUL TIPS:
1. Make sure you go up to the maximum weight allowed.
2. Spend time polishing the axles - this is a consistent factor in the fastest cars every year.
3. Make sure you use graphite on the wheels and axles.
4. Have fun and enjoy having your scout assist in building the car!
5. HINT – YouTube has some great videos with tips and tricks (but stay within the attached rules).
Regarding the rules - two items we’d like to highlight attention to:
NOSE DESIGN: The starting pin is a round metal pin that extends perpendicular to the track from the center of the lane to hold the cars at the start of the race. Cars should be made so that they have a flat front surface to rest against the pin. Cars made without a flat nose (those which are pointed, rounded, tapered, etc.) may be entered but only at the Scout’s risk because they may not work well with the starting pins. No part of the car may extend forward of the rear of the starting pin when the car is placed against it. It is recommended that the front end be at least ½ inches wide in the middle.
All four wheels must be in contact with the track at all times. Raising one wheel will result in a failed inspection. This was not called out last year, but will be enforced this year to comply with district standards.
Have a great time building your cars and we will see everyone on the 2nd!
If you have any questions, please reach out!
Hey Pack 44,
A message from our Awards Chair! Kathryn would love to know if there is anyone who has earned a Recruiter Patch but didn't know it was a special patch to add to the uniform. If your Scout has earned this patch by recruiting someone to Scouts in 2023, please contact me kathrynwohlfeil@gmail.com.
The description is as follows:
When Scouts are having a great time they naturally want to invite friends who are not involved to join. To recognize those Cub Scouts who recruit a friend to join the pack, there is the recruiter strip. This patch is worn on the bottom left pocket of the uniform. When a Cub Scout invites friends to join the pack, once one of those friends has joined, they earn the patch.
Thanks! As a reminder, our next Pack Committee Meeting will be this Tuesday, February 20th at 7pm, and the Pinewood Derby will be held on March 2nd!
