Welcome to the coaches section of the CGHL website. Below are the responsibilities and expectations CGHL would like to highlight for our coaches.
Coaching Responsibilities
Coaches are responsible for knowing and following the current USA Hockey rules. We realize that many of our coaches are still learning and encourage you to learn all you can. The Playing rules are linked below and can be found at USA Hockey's website.
Coaches are responsible for knowing and following the current USA Concussion Protocol. The current flyer is below. Coaches can print the flyers and post them at the rink and hand them out to parents at the beginning of the season.
Coaches are responsible for awarding the CGHL awards to their teams. We want to recognize girls who show the character it takes to win in life. Please visit the CGHL Awards page for directions and links for submitting and printing awards.
Coaches are responsible for keeping up-to-date about coaching in Connecticut. The Connecticut Hockey Conference has up-to-date information for coaches. In the CGHL we believe that coaches, players, referees and parents all contribute to a girl's growth and love of the game. We expect our coaches interact with parents, players and referees on a professional level keeping in mind you are a role model to the children you are coaching. The Ref-In-Chief page provides up to date concerns that coaches might find helpful. USA hockey has even more information for coaches.
Please know when your coaching certificate is up and don't postpone taking care of this. If you are not up to date by December 31st each year, you will be redlined off the roster and will not be able to be on the ice or coach the rest of the year.
USA Hockey, your organization's registrar, or your organization's Director of Coaching, can help you with this. Reach out to them with a Coaching Certificate, background checks or Safe Sport Questions.
The Connecticut Girls Hockey League (CGHL) consists of recreational girls’ youth hockey teams from organizations throughout Connecticut. CGHL provides the structure & means for girls to learn the skills to play the sport of hockey. CGHL values player development, fun, effort, and excellence,as well as good sportsmanship from players, coaches, and parents. We are volunteer run, and have a board consisting of officers, and representatives from each member organization
