Prospective Members

Prospective Undergraduate/Postbaccalaureate Students

The Trauma and Healing Lab values the contributions of undergraduate and postbaccalaureate research assistants (RAs). RA applications are accepted year-round, and Dr. Perez Grabow will notify applicants about openings in the lab as they come up.

RA tasks may include (but are not limited to) participant recruitment and enrollment, data management (e.g., data entry, data cleaning through Excel/SPSS, monitoring electronic data collection), collecting data from children, adolescents, and adults, coding responses, literature searches, participation in lab meetings, and presenting on research conducted. All RAs are required to create their own research project on the topic of trauma, submit to present at a conference, and attend at least one conference as part of their participation in the lab.

Participation in the lab also requires a minimum commitment of 10 hours per week. RAs may not work 10 hours every week; however, as data collection efforts and lab meetings ramp up, the expectation is that they will be available for a minimum of 10 hours per week. These hours do not always require to be in-person (e.g., may work from home, office). Participation in the lab also requires a minimum two-semester commitment (Fall/Spring terms).

Applicants with the following qualities will be given the highest consideration: interest/match between student goals and goals of the research lab, professionalism (e.g., communication skills, responsibility, timeliness), motivation and openness to learning and feedback, curiosity, and a demonstrated commitment to the lab.

Prospective M.A. Graduate Students

In addition to working towards personal and academic growth through the CSUSM Psychological Sciences M.A. program, graduate students in the Trauma and Healing Lab have the opportunity to lead ongoing projects and mentor undergraduate and postbaccalaureate students as part of their roles in the lab.

Dr. Perez Grabow will be reviewing applications for the 2023-2024 academic year for at least one M.A. student. It is recommended that you email Dr. Perez Grabow should you have any questions and/or to discuss research interests and potential collaborations.

Undergraduate and postbaccalaureate students may find the RA application here.
