Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Pre-Vet Club? What do you do?

Our club is a way for students interested in pursuing careers in veterinary medicine to expose themselves to the field and meet others who are interested in the same career path. But, we accept everyone under all majors and career paths! We hold general meetings every other Wednesday, where we invite veterinarians from around Colorado to speak about various aspects of the field.

We also host a variety of events throughout the year. Our big events are Pre-Vet Day in the fall and the Wet Labs in the spring, as well as various opportunities throughout the year!

In addition to these events, we also host and attend a variety of activities and community service events. These activities include (but are not limited to) dissections, suture clinics, end-of-year socials, tours (local farms, the Denver Zoo, CSU’s Veterinary Teaching Hospital), volunteering at adoption events, and volunteering in the greater Fort Collins community.

What is Pre-Vet Day?

Pre-Vet Day is our annual day-long symposium filled with lectures and labs designed for pre-veterinary students. PVD is a unique hands-on opportunity for students to gain information about the world of veterinary medicine, practice what they are learning, and have fun at the same time. The Pre-Veterinary Club has been awarded multiple SOAR awards.

How do I join the Pre-Vet Club?

Any CSU student can join our club at  any time during the year. Stop by our office hours listed Here to fill out a membership packet. Dues are $20/year or $12/semester, payable at any point during a semester. Cash or Checks are accepted. Please make checks payable to "CSU Pre-Vet Club".

I can’t go to any general meetings. Can I still join?

Yes! Our meetings are not mandatory and you can still be a member without going to them. We still encourage you to come to activities and community service events! Check out our Meeting Summary to get an overview about what we talked about at the meeting.

I’m not a member. Can I still go to meetings?

Yes, our meetings are open to the general public and anyone may attend.

How can I make suggestions and give comments regarding the Club (activities, communication, speakers, the website)?

We would love your feedback and you can submit your suggestions Here!

I want to be an officer! How do I do that?

We hold officer elections every February during a general meeting. In order to run, you must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or a 3.0 GPA for the previous semester, have completed at least one semester at CSU, and (of course) be enthusiastic about running for a position! We will have “Intent to Run” forms in our office and at general meetings, and they must be turned in by the date specified on the forms (~1 week before the election meeting).  You must also be a dues paying member.

We do the elections in a “runoff” style - that is, you pick the highest position you’d like to run for and you can run for any position below it if you are not elected to your first-choice position.

If you have questions about being an officer, or questions about a specific officer position, please feel free to ask anyone on the officer team (or contact the officer in the specific position you’re interested in). Our contact information is found Here.

I have questions about my four-year plan, coursework, and how to prepare for vet school. Can you help?

We highly recommend you direct these questions to our wonderful pre-veterinary advisor, Ann Bowen. You can make an appointment with her by calling The Collaborative for Student Achievement at: 970-491-7095. You can also email her at: ann.bowen@colostate.edu. Students can schedule electronically by going to Health Professions Advising at CSU.

If you have questions regarding professors feel free to chat with officers during office hours or after meetings. We’re happy to tell you about our experiences with particular classes and professors. If you have general questions about professors, balancing a heavy workload, or what certain classes are like, feel free to ask officers as well - just know that we may direct you to ask specific questions to Ann. :)

I’m a high school student, what should I do?

If you’re looking for suggestions regarding classes to take or programs to look into we recommend you email the fabulous pre-veterinary advisor, Ann Bowen, at ann.bowen@colostate.edu. If you have questions about the Club and how to join it if you attend CSU in the future, also feel free to email csuprevet@gmail.com or the Club’s President, Jordan Navarro (jornava@colostate.edu).
