Integrated Experiences

Integrated Lesson Plans are movement based lessons that take 20-40 minutes. They are aligned with the Colorado Academic Dance Standards and can be adapted to meet Colorado Academic Standards in other subject areas. These lessons are designed to supplement existing curriculum with movement/dance experiences to further engage students. Embodied learning through movement lessons has vast potential to reach all kinds of learners and encourage creativity, collaboration, critical thinking, and communication. We encourage teachers of all grade-levels and disciplines to explore ways to include movement/dance concepts and lessons in their teaching practices.

Sessions can be led by classroom teachers who feel comfortable with the movement vocabulary or teachers can work collaboratively with a dance specialist or guest artist.

Some lessons may appear under more than one heading. For example, the unit below titled "Dances from Around the World" also appears on the Plans by Content Area page under Social Studies/History. These three consecutive lessons explore traditional dance, music, costuming, and story telling in Brazil.

The Unit is an overview and guide to a collection of lessons that are grouped together into a cohesive plan. Integrated and Independent lessons are grouped together into Units based on their subject areas, content, and/or goals.

A unit could be as short as a few lessons or as long as an entire year.
