October 1, 2025 the Republican-Controlled White House, Senate, and House of Representatives launched us into the first government shutdown of Trump's second term. Donald Trump's first presidency saw a shutdown in early 2018 and another later in the same year. The first two shutdowns cost the US Government in over $5 billion.
More than 190,000 Cuyahoga County Residents will go without their federally-backed food assitance in November - just in time for the holidays. The USDA does not have the funding necessary to fill in the gaps caused by the federal government shut down.
The College Democrats went to the October 28th SGA Senate meeting to advocate on behalf of the RTA U-Pass program but also made sure to dedicate a period of public comment to calling for the end of the Government Shutdown.
More importantly, we came to highlight the on-campus options available to ALL students who rely on SNAP and WIC Benefits! Liftup Vikes Food pantry on campus is extending their program during this trying time and the CSU College Democrats are doing everything we can to support the food bank. Please support their cause anyway they can.
