CSU Students Deserve reliable and affordable transit options

On July 31, 2025, Cleveland State University announced that they will no longer be participating in the U-Pass program. This program is something that many students, across all backgrounds, rely on.

Immediately, the CSU College Dems took action. Creating @bringbackupass on Instagram and mobalizing our community to bring back this essential program.

The Instagram account gained RAPID traction (pun intended), our coalition grew and grew. Clevelanders for Public Transit and Councilwoman Rebecca Maurer helped us take action. More and more voices demanded to be heard... from Councilman Richard Starr to All Aboard Ohio, to local businesses. Eventually, the CSU College Democrat-led movement was unable to be ignored and the students were heard.

CSU College Democrats were in the room during the decision making process and the RTA U-Pass program came back for the 2025-2026 school year. This time, the administration is collecting data and working on a sustainable solution for all parties moving forward. The College Democrats will continue to advocate for the students and be in the room where it happens.

We are the like-minded student organizations, local businesses, elected officials, organizations, etc calling on the University to maintain good-faith negotiations with the RTA on a solution that is sustainable for Students, The University, and the GCRTA!
