Describe the skills or attributes you believe are necessary to be an outstanding teacher:
I firmly believe that the skills and attributes necessary to be an outstanding teacher are ever-evolving as our students’ needs and educational mandates change. An outstanding teacher has flexibility, passion, drive, motivation, leadership skills, content mastery and knowledge, and a love for students and learning.
An outstanding teacher is more than just a fount of information; they form a bond with their students and create a relationship of mutual learning; an outstanding teacher learns just as much from their students as their students learn from the teacher.
How would you address a wide range of skills and abilities in your classroom?
I firmly believe in mixed-method instruction and differentiated assessment. Every student has a unique skill set that requires differentiated instruction that allows them to learn to the best of their ability. Not every student will learn in the same manner, and not every student can be assessed in the same manner. Student A may be an excellent wordsmith who can craft an essay of brilliance. In contrast, student B can beautifully display content mastery through a digital presentation or artistic representation. Every student can learn; our job, as educators, is to find the path that allows them to achieve greatness.
