California Subject Matter Project
The California Subject Matter Project (CSMP) is a network of nine discipline-specific projects providing research-based, sustained professional learning and leadership development opportunities for TK-12 educators statewide, designed to improve student learning. CSMP programs transform education by supporting teachers in providing access and expansive learning opportunities for all students, especially those who are systemically marginalized and historically underserved, so that they can grow and thrive.
CSMP CS Integration Project
The California Budget Act of 2022 appropriated $1.6 million to the University of California for the CSMP on “a one-time basis to support a UC Subject Matter Project on computer science”. This one-time funding allowed the creation of the CSMP Integrated Computer Science Project establishing the development and implementation 10 new programs for K-12 teachers designed to build and strengthen their capacity to integrate Computer Science (CS) concepts and practices into their academic disciplines.
In alignment with CSMP's Goals, the CSMP CS Integration programs focus on:
Developing K-12 educators Computer Science literacy and leadership capacities by supporting them over time and responding to their needs;
Strengthening the integration of CS concepts and practices across academic disciplines in a way that is connected to classroom curriculum;
Developing and disseminating resources, planning tools, and processes to support CS integration in classrooms and school systems;
Fostering ongoing evaluation of program implementation for continuous improvement ;
Building bridges across existing CS initiatives in CA.
