The Industry Night hosted by the Canadian Society for Mechanical Engineering (CSME) BCIT Chapter is an annual event held at the BCIT Burnaby Campus. The main goal of this event was to connect employers in British Columbia with our talented mechanical engineering students at BCIT. Booths will be available for ambassadors of mechanical engineering companies to reserve, and the environment will be similar to a job fair. Catering will also be provided by CSME – for food and drinks.
Our mechanical engineering program at BCIT consists of various different focuses such as mechanical manufacturing, mechanical systems, and mechanical design. These focuses are tailored towards the specific needs of employers - this is a great opportunity to scout for potential hires.
During the event, employers will have the chance to chat with students and learn about the vigorous training, primarily focused on application in industry, which we get at BCIT. Employers also have a chance to advertise their company and its projects – which can spark interest amongst the student body. Companies ambassadors and students are encouraged to bring business cards for exchange or be ready to exchange professional contact information for follow-up conversations.
Our annual Professional Industry Night in 2020 was a huge success - with 12 companies in attendance and over a hundred attendees.
Professional Industry Night is an event that is key to CSME's identity - to fulfill the disconnect between prospective mechanical engineers and industry professionals. At this event, not only will students be able to make early impressions on local engineering companies, but also find inspiration from company projects on display. This serves to invigorate their pre-existing passion for mechanical engineering and broaden the spectrum of the available options in their discipline as a whole.

The objective of our annual Welcoming BBQ is to act as a catalyst in overcoming the initial nerves of any student's endeavours in pursuing a career in Mechanical Engineering at BCIT. The event takes place right after student orientation on campus. Activities such as interactive games, Q&A sessions, and club introductions are coupled with food prepared by CSME to make for a fun icebreaker.
