Congratulations! Psychologists estimate that as many as 5 to 10% of Americans meet the criteria for social media addiction today. But luckily, that's not you! Not checking social media every few minutes doesn't make you feel anxious, as you prefer to live 'in the moment' rather than through your apps. You use social media to your advantage, at work and to connect with friends and family, but you know when to put it away. Keep it up!
Starting school again played a big role in me slacking down on social media. I do believe it is a distraction. Since I've slowed down the use of social media my mental health has done a turn for the best. I'm way more focused than I've ever been.
An interesting stat in the articles provided was Facebook being the most widely used online platform among U.S. adults. The data provided makes a lot of sense. Most adult I know only have Facebook accounts.
Social media has both positive and negative effects on society. On the positive side, it enables global connectivity, fosters self-expression, and serves as a platform for activism and education. It also supports business growth and provides access to diverse cultures and ideas.
However, the negative impacts include the spread of misinformation, increased mental health issues like anxiety and depression, and political polarization. Additionally, it can lead to superficial relationships, privacy concerns, and data security risks, affecting both individuals and society as a whole.
Social media’s impact on society is the importance of mindful use. While it offers opportunities for connection and expression, it also brings challenges like misinformation, mental health concerns, and division. By being aware of these risks and using social media responsibly, we can maximize its benefits while reducing its negative effects.
