Project Desription
In this project we were required to do some research individually and partner our information to compare and contrast data.
I reseached the country Ghana.
My classmate, Kirsten, researched Columbia.
Together we were able to formulate this PowerPoint Presentation
One interesting fact I learned is that, at the age of four, children in Ghana enter a two-year kindergarten program, and then, from ages 6 to 12, kids go to primary school for six years. Children continue their education through secondary school only if their families can afford it. The educational system of Ghana is much ahead of that of many other African countries. In 2020, Colombia will have a GDP per capita of $13,400, whereas Ghana's will be just $5,300. The unemployment rate among adults in Colombia is 10.5% as of 2019. In 2015, that percentage was 11.9% in Ghana (Patio et al., 2020). Colombia has one of the highest rates of ethnolinguistic diversity in the Americas (McGreevey et al.,2021). Colombia is well-known worldwide for its vast natural riches, progressive cities, and rich cultural heritage.
The overall lesson I learned is that different countries have different cultures, and also, there is that diversity and also economic disparities. Increasing your 'cultural awareness' helps you engage more meaningfully with others. Compassion and sensitivity for others are being fostered through appreciating similarities and distinctions.
