In this project, We were tasked to create a page about how Social Media us specifically and the greater implications of society.
We were given a quiz that tells us how addicted we are to social media. I have been trying to stay off social media more in the past year, so I wasn't too surprised with my results. The quiz rated me as such,
You have a HEALTHY RELATIONSHIP with social media - well done!
Congratulations! Psychologists estimate that as many as 5 to 10% of Americans meet the criteria for social media addiction today. But luckily, that's not you! Not checking social media every few minutes doesn't make you feel anxious, as you prefer to live 'in the moment' rather than through your apps. You use social media to your advantage, at work and to connect with friends and family, but you know when to put it away. Keep it up!
I spend on average 15 minutes a day across all social media sites. I try to focus on other things in my day because I don't like how scrolling and seeing all that negativity makes me feel. I mostly just view my friends posts and then click off the app. I still think I scroll too much every once in a while, but I plan to limit that and focus more on real life and things that matter to me.
I found it very interesting how people use social media. I understand and relate to some uses like entertainment and connections, but to get news and keep up to date on political issues is weird to me. It is also fascinating that it's not the least common reason for twitter. A quite large number of people tend to use twitter for news.
I learned a lot about the impacts of social media and how they influence news and politics. Social media was originally intended to connect people around the globe and now it is being used to spread propaganda and share opinions.
