This project aims to explore the impact of social media on society and myself, by reviewing materials such as social media statistics, research, and completing an addiction quiz.
After taking the quiz, I was actually quite surprised. Here are the results: Congratulations! Psychologists estimate that as many as 5 to 10% of Americans meet the criteria for social media addiction today. But luckily, that's not you! Not checking social media every few minutes doesn't make you feel anxious, as you prefer to live 'in the moment' rather than through your apps. You use social media to your advantage, at work and to connect with friends and family, but you know when to put it away. Keep it up!
I am very happy with my results because I thought that I was gonna get that
I am addicted. This was very motivating and refreshing.
The statistic that stood out the most to me in the articles was how often people say they check social media throughout the day. This statistic closely reflects my own habits and usage of these platforms.
Social media has both positive and negative effects on our lives. On the positive side, it helps us stay connected with friends and family, no matter the distance. However, on the negative side, it can fill face-to-face interactions with distractions, as people often focus on their phones instead of each other. This makes the time spent with loved ones less personal and disconnected. Overall, I am not sure whether or not the positives outweigh the negatives.
I’ve learned that social media affects everyone differently. Although I thought I was addicted to it, I found out I’m not — which is actually pretty awesome because it means I can keep doing what I’ve been doing. This assignment helped me see both the positive and negative sides of social media, and while I used to think it had more of a negative impact, I now feel like it’s a bit more balanced.
