Social Media Impact Assignment

Overview

For this assignment we where asked to review different materials for the week, such as different social media stats and a quiz to see if we are addicted to social media. After that we are asked to reflect on how social media impacts society and share our informed opinion.

For the social media addiction quiz I took, I was told I am "Fairley Reliant" on social media but that its not a bad case and no where near some of the more intense ones. I know that i use YouTube a lot and need to cut back on how much i use it, but i use videos and music off of there both to relax and help me destress or calm down, so I struggle cutting back at times. Other then YouTube I hardly ever use any forms of social media so I know it is a more targeted case and even then I try keeping it mild, and seemed to have been a bit successful.

Social Media's Impact on Society

For this assignment I was asked to right a paragraph on my opinion of social medias impact on society. I honestly feel like social media is great for society in some cases and horrible in others. Some people get over reliant and heavily addicted to social media like its a drug and even end up with withdrawal symptoms if going without, while others base there lives or change how they act dress and behave based off of things said or posted on some social media sites, which both cases are bad. Some times social media is great because it can help people more easily connect, learn, share and help people they know or need to be in contact with, and can help the spread of information along with helping with teaching or guiding people depending on who is posting and what. The problem with social media is its gotten to the point anyone says and posts whatever they want, and even gets offended and hurt easily by random people they don't know, instead of focusing on helping or learning, and a lot of people don't double check things that are said often. All in all I feel social media has been a big help in the past but is getting to a point now that if we are not careful can cause a lot of problems and issues going forward, and we need to be careful what is said and done through these social sites.

Lessons Learned

Through this assignment I learned how dependent I am on different forms of social media, and how disconnected I am from some of the more main stream social media sites. I also learned some interesting statistics about social media use, and even some new sites I haven't heard of before. This assignment was definitely interesting for me and something I enjoyed looking into even though a lot of the statistics weren't a bit surprise for m.
