For this project, I had to explore how social media impacts me and society.
After taking “AM I ADDICTED TO SOCIAL MEDIA?” QUIZ I found I used social media far too much! The results showed,
"You NEED to get a grip on your social media habits! Scrolling through social media is your number one past time - you're never off the .gram, or TikTok, or Twitter or... (insert your favourite platform here). You spend an excessive amount of your day on social media, feeling that if something isn't recorded and posted on one of your accounts it didn't really happen. Sleep, eating, work, even your relationships, are all suffering as a result. Did you know that, in a famous study from Denmark, adults who spent a week off social media felt much happier with their lives? They also reported an increase in real-world social activity and were significantly less angry and lonely than those who stayed on social media. It's time to take your social media addiction seriously and embark on a digital detox."
I know that I spend too much time on social media. So, I want to start using social media less frequently and eventually stop using it altogether.
I chooses this statistic because I can most easily relate to it and because I believe it accurately describes the society I live in. This statistic most closely relates to me because I use three of the top four social media apps used by people in the 18-to-29 age range. These websites are YouTube, Instagram, and Snapchat. I believe that this study is relevant to the society in which I live. I know a lot of individuals use Snapchat and Instagram daily. However, TikTok is one area where I diverge from a lot of the people I speak with since I haven't used it. because I don't feel comfortable sharing my information with that specific company.
Social media, in my opinion, has positive as well as negative impacts on society. People can interact with one another much more easily as a result, which is a good thing. In addition, this makes it easier for people to interact with one another and complete work. Social media can be harmful and social media firms have too much impact, so those are two negatives. Social media can be dangerous when used improperly, much like alcohol, which can result in brain problems and mental health problems like sadness and anxiety. As a result of their ability to control users as they see fit and permitting their platforms to be addictive, social media firms have also grown to be excessively powerful.
For this project, I have learned that social media plays a significant role in society, both positive and negative. I believe that it is necessary to approach social media use with caution and responsibility.
