James Whelton, co-founder of CoderDojo

James Whelton is a programmer and entrepreneur.

He co-founded CoderDojo in 2011 in Cork, weeks after finishing his Leaving Cert. He worked on the growth of CoderDojo and created the CoderDojo Foundation in 2013 to aid. CoderDojo today is in over 108 countries with 2031 clubs reaching 58,000 young people.

In 2014 James became CTO of the Middle East’s largest daily deal platform. In 2017 he built one of the region’s largest online supermarket’s, first employed as Chief Technical Officer (CTO) and then assumed the role of Managing Director (MD.)

James holds various roles and advisory positions to start-ups and NPOs. He enjoys mental and physical wellbeing, playing board games with friends and has ambitions to make his own dinnerware set some day.
