Our need finding composes of two aspects. (1) Survey people on the current system to find out what usability problems exist and what they would like to see changed. (2) Interview experts in the field who could also be users of this system to learn important details about how to design the system
We created a survey and had people test out the system and then fill out the survey. We also had our domain experts go through this process since they are also potential users of the system.
Most people found the system a little difficult to learn, but some people found it very easy.
Similar results to learnability. Most people found some difficulties in using it, but some people found it very easy.
Mixed results, but a lot of people found the task very tiring.
Other feedback was mostly about things we are restricted on based on the holo lens. People found the device heavy, had trouble pinching and with the device recognizing their hand, and did not like gaze interaction.
We interviewed domain experts from the optics field to learn about how optical designers may use a system like ours. This is very valuable information because we can make sure we are solving problems that actually exist and creating solutions that work well for the users.
