My teaching is rooted in the belief that grace—a commitment to kindness, adaptability, and mutual respect—is fundamental to effective mathematics education. Rather than treating math as cold and rigid, I design my classroom to be a warm, inclusive space where diverse backgrounds are celebrated and mistakes are embraced as essential opportunities for conceptual growth.
I believe that true mathematical understanding requires stepping out of the audience and onto the field. In my courses, we build our community around three simple promises:
An Invitation to Participate: The only way to learn math is by doing math. My classroom is designed to pull you out of the audience and onto the field, ensuring you are a co-creator of the mathematics we explore through active, collaborative discovery.
A Team Sport: Your classmates are your best assets. Teaching a concept to a peer is the fastest way to solidify your own understanding. We are here to support one another's mathematical journeys.
A Safe Space to Fail: Don't be afraid to get things wrong. Shifting our focus from performance to growth means we treat setbacks as stepping stones. We all share the responsibility to keep our classroom safe enough to try, fail, and try again.

During my time at WashU, I participated in the Professional Development in Teaching Program hosted by the WashU Center for Teaching and Learning earning the level of Innovator for which I received a Teaching Citation. In 2024, I earned the WashU Department of Mathematics Brian Blank Teaching Award. And in 2025, I earned the WashU Department of Mathematics Robert H. McDowell Teaching award.
