Not only does Sorian abuse time travel to gain access to private information, but she also uses it as a way to gain leverage on the government and control their inner workings. There’s a scene in the movie where Sorian is on a phone call with a senator and she’s threatening them saying they will be left behind if they do not create new statutes to support her programs.
Sorian also goes into the past to engage in illegal activities such as insider trading and offshore banking without any regulation by the government. Sorian having a hand in the government exposes how corrupt politics can be. It is the government's responsibility to enforce strict laws so technology does not get abused. Even if technology is created with good intentions, it must be used responsibly. This brings into question whether or not the government should have more power over companies and their privacy. The Adam Project proves to us that society would benefit if big tech companies were more transparent with their actions and decision-making.
