Motion Path Animation
March 14th, 2019
Being the big Disney fan I am I decide to do a magic carpet ride through Agrabah. The magic carpet takes you through the city, around the palace and flies out of the city at the end.
Staging: I tried keep the rule of thirds in mind in the opening image of the rollercoaster. Having the Palace as the main focus point, I wanted it to be center of attention without it being the center.
Arc: I tried to make my animation follow arcs as it moved through the scene but mostly when it took long turns. For example, as the magic carpet goes around the palace, it follows an arc to give it a more natural movement.
Slow in and Slow out: The magic carpet flies pretty quickly once it enters the city, but as it makes it way towards the entrance and as it flies out the city, the motion magic carpet slows down creating a nice transition. There is a slight bend to motion of the graph. It's not extreme.
Challenges:
1. My biggest challenge was actually getting my animation to render. It took an extremely long time to do with several crashes so I had to just playblast it in the end.
2. I also struggled with getting the movement of my animation right. It was very jagged to begin with and even in the final product it wasn't as smooth as I would have like it to have been.
I modeled everything in the animation except for the palm trees and the ladders:
