Supporting Racial Diversity. (2024). U.S. Department of Education. https://www.ed.gov/laws-and-policy/civil-rights-laws/protecting-students/supporting-racial-diversity
This US Department of Education website provides guidance on how any educational institution can comply with Title VI and other Supreme Court rulings in this area. It includes links to Policy Guidance, Case Resolutions, and Publications. It is applicable to culturally responsive teaching as Title VI directly addresses racial harassment, prevention of segregation, and other aspects of diversity within a classroom setting. Having background in the need for this can help ensure one's classroom meets all necessary and supportive guidelines.
Tools and Guidance for Evaluating Bias in Instructional Materials A Region 8 Comprehensive Center Report. (n.d.). https://files.eric.ed.gov/fulltext/ED612040.pdf
This report addresses the need for culturally responsible material in classroom curriculum. It emphasizes how resources in a classroom can have unintentional stereotypes and push undetected biases. The introduction and methodology of the text is followed by tools to use, ways to provide guidance, definitions of the material provided, and key elements of consideration. Consulting this before introducing new topics, content, or curriculum can work to ensure classroom content remains culturally inclusive.
Dani. (2015). One Class, Many Cultures - Freebie! Blogspot.com. https://aplacetothrive.blogspot.com/2012/09/one-class-many-cultures-freebie.html
This interactive classroom art is a great way to incorporate a variety of cultural background into classroom curriculum. This can be made as a piece of art or as a class activity but having children design themselves. Once each student is drawn and colored, they can be placed or connected to the part of the world they/their family comes from. This works to show that not all students have the same backgrounds while serving as an interactive lesson or discussion piece.
