The Good Team focused their research on cleaning acid mine drainage around the GYP-CIX Process. This process removes calcium sulfates following lime and sulfuric acid treatment that is low-cost. The community we focused on helping lies on Navajo land, specifically, in Shiprock, New Mexico. Indigenous community planning is one of the key aspects of our plan due to the demographics in the area. There are numerous health and environmental risks involved with acid mine drainage, many of them already appearing in the Shiprock area. Community development goes hand in hand with natural resource and environmental planning in order to get the population on board with the treatment plan we are proposing. In order to gain the trust of the community, we must show them that we really are here to help! That is our job and we want to better the quality of life of the individuals affected by acid mine drainage in the Shiprock area.
