1. Jesus First - going where he goes and doing what he says
Jesus is the purpose and Jesus is the leader. We go where he goes and do what he says. He’s pioneering the path and we are right behind him, focusing on him, straining to hear what he is saying to us and ready to sacrifice personal comfort for his mission. It’s him we love and worship and are following to the ends of the earth, not forms or conventions, so we’re not afraid to challenge the norm and tread unchartered territory. Scripture: Matt 11:28-30; Matt 28:18-20; Mark 8:34-35; Luke 8:15; John 10:27; John 12:25; John 14:23; John 15:5; Col 1:15-20; Rev 12:11; Rev 21:13
2. Word and Spirit - rooted in the bible and living by the spirit
Faithful to scripture, we seek to uncover truth from dust of centuries of interpretation to hear what God is saying to us. We’re unafraid to wrestle with difficult and challenging theological questions. Unashamedly charismatic, we’re hungry for living relationship with God – more presence, more power, more of him – and so press in through study, worship and prayer. Scripture: Neh 8:1-8; Is 55:10-11; John 1:1; John 10:35b; John 20:30-31; 1 Tim 4:13; 1 Tim 5:18; 2 Tim 3:16-17; 2 Tim 4:2; John 3:5-8; John 4:23-24; John 14:15-17; John 16:4b-15; 1 Cor 14; 1 Tim 1:18; 1 Tim 4:14
3. Freedom - becoming who God has made us to be
Jesus has freed us to be ourselves in him. There is honour for everyone and grace for everything. As precious and vital members of Christ’s body, we choose to believe the best of others. Each is a unique living stone in the dwelling place of God – there are no copies of copies. We renounce control of others and take responsibility for ourselves. We strive for a no-blame culture, free from judgementalism. We distance ourselves from worldly freedom – ‘I can do whatever I like’ – and love Biblical freedom – ‘I can be who God intended me to be.’ Scripture: Mark 6:19b; John 8:31-36; Rom 8:1-2; Rom 12:4-8; 1 Cor 3:16; 1 Cor 4:3-5; 1 Cor 12:12-31; 1 Cor 14:26; 2 Cor 3:17; Phil 2:5-8; Col 2:16-23; 1 Tim 4:4-5; 1 Pet 2:5; 1 Pet 2:17;
4. Oneness - local unity with global vision
We’re the bride of Christ being prepared, constantly reforming, embracing every expression of church, accepting our differences and celebrating our togetherness. Rather than go it alone we choose to work alongside, share and resource one another. We demonstrate Jesus through our love for his people. We’re on God’s mission to bless others not like us. Scripture: Is 19:23-25; Mark 9:38-40; John 13:35; John 17:20-23; Rom 15:5-7; 1 Cor 1:10-17; 1 Cor 3:1-21; 1 Cor 11:29; 1 Cor 12:12-27; Gal 3:28; Eph 2:13-18; Eph 4:1-6; Eph 4:11-14
5. Wholeness - God’s kingdom right here right now
God’s Kingdom is characterised by his kindness – it’s approachable, accessible, normal, generous, inclusive and good news for everyone. We bless all generations and segments of society and seek to see the entire person – body, mind and heart – brought into wholeness as God’s child. Wholeness extends beyond the individual to bring order to relationships, finances, marriages, parenting and health. Our hope is grounded in our sonship of the King and our identity as heirs of his kingdom. We will do you good. Scripture: Gen 12:1-3; Matt 6:10; Mark 8:34-37; Luke 10:27; John 10:10b; Rom 8:3-4; 1 Cor 1:2; 2 Cor 5:16-19; Gal 3:29; Gal 4:1-7; Phil 4:2-3; Phil 4:11-13
